It's easy to be wasteful and to not notice ways to save on winter heating that may be simpler than you think. Instead of dreading receiving the utility bills each month, you can reduce them and feel proud about your efforts. What are some ways to do cut your heating costs and still feel comfortable where you live or work?

Is your heating system ancient? When I moved into my condo, it had the same original heating system as when it was built 20 years earlier. The bills were quite high and the heating system was not efficient. It also was quite loud, unlike the modern improvements for heating the home. The age of a heating system is important as many of the ones thirty years ago did not have some cost saving features.

Take some time to see where the drafts are that come into your home. Check the windows, doors and areas where cold air sneaks in. Putting up curtains can be helpful. Get rid of what drains the energy out of your pocket. As a bonus, you may actually get warmer in your home. Sometimes you can actually feel the draft in certain rooms which really cuts into the whole experience anyway.

Do you have a desk, bookcase or furniture piece that is up against the vent? Let the vent be unobstructed in order to help to circulate the heat and distribute it properly around the room. Move the couch, desk, bookcase or stuffed chairs to not block that important area.

For some people, getting a little space heater can be both fun and economical. My close friend saved some bucks last year by heating his apartment that way but he is someone who enjoys seeing how to cut corners. If you are someone that doesn't like to step into a cold room, you may prefer the heat being distributed evenly throughout your dwelling. However, many people just sit in the same spot of the home or apartment after dinner watching tv, reading or being on the computer. If so, a space heater can be a nice way to cut the bills.

Be honest, how much time do you spend shaving your legs in the shower or waiting for a conditioner to sit on your hair while the water is running hot? Try to cut back both on the time and temperature. This can add up , especially if there are several women living together. Put a conditioner on your hair before you take your shower. This not only makes your hair softer, but it also saves you some money. Warm water won't dry out your skin or hair the way that hot water does. My hair dresser actually told me to use warm water to prevent drying and frizzing.

When was the last time you checked your furnace filter? Look at it and change it if it needs it. This is a very important step to take. Clean out filters generally whether it's for the dryer , automobile or other items with motors in your environment.

Do you remember to lower the heat when you go to work? When you get home, put on a warm sweater and make the home few degrees lower than your usual habit. It is worth investing in a thick sweater as that will be a way to lower your temperature. If you save your exercise time for the evening, you'll be able to get your body warmer naturally through aerobic exercise or eastern forms of exercise that involve deep breathing. Some people will wear a wool cap on indoors to stay warmer. This is especially true for teens, college students and those in their twenties. Don't forget to keep your socks on too and wear house slippers so you don't lose your body heat. Once you get a chill, it's hard to warm up. Some people will wear gloves indoors, but to me this is taking things too far.

Try some of these tips and save money on those heating bills which you can use instead for fun activities on the weekend. Don't put your money into bills but use it for movies or eating out. You can get more ideas here at http://www.heating-help.com on How to Save on Heating
